| Did
you ever wonder how they hand
colored black and white photos?
Now you can do it yourself, and it's
easy! With a Marshall's Oil
Kit and just a little practice, you
can color black and white
photographs for yourself or friends.
Give the kit as a gift to someone
who is interested in art or
photography. You don't have to
know how to paint. You don't
have to be a professional artist.
All you need is the Marshall's Oil
Kit, cotton balls, and Q-tips.
Yes, that's right, cotton balls and
Q-tips! |

Marshall's Oils Kits to Get You
Started |
|
The following kits
are all you need to get started on
making beautiful hand colored
photographs. Each kit comes
with a print to practice and all the
supplies you'll need, including
instructions. Once you've
painted the print (it is on
photographic paper and not just
regular stock paper), if you don't
like it, just clean it off and start
again. Until the painted print
is dry, you can keep changing any
color. I teach classes on
Marshall's Oils and time and time
again people come up and say, "I
can't believe that's all there is
too it!" And if you have
questions, just e-mail me and I'll
be glad to help.
To give you an
idea of the process, you apply your
color with a Q-tip and then gently
buff away the excess paint with a
cotton ball. All of your
photograph shows through the paint,
so you have the detail of the photo
but now with color! You don't
even have to worry about staying in
the lines, when you apply the next
color, it blends together.
It is best to work on copies of old
photographs and not the actual
photos. A professional lab can
make black and white photos from
your color negatives. Also,
have them printed on matte finish
photographic paper and ask for them
to be printed a little on the
"light" side (less contrast).
I find it is easier to cover a
lighter area with paint than a dark
one. |

Matte
Finish Spray

When you are finished with your hand
coloring and it is completely dry,
you spray your piece with the
Marshall's Matte Finish Spray.
This spray helps to uniform where
the different paints come together.
It also helps to protect your
photograph. It can also be
sprayed on other things for a matte
finish look; for example, charcoal
drawings and glossy photos.
Please spray in a well ventilated
area.
This product is flammable.
This product
has to be shipped ground.
